Avasjö Chapel in Borgafjäll is designed by the famous architect Ralph Erskine together with Sören Wimmerström and Ulf Oelrik. Sixten Wikbro from the village Högland was the building master and the chapel was built between 1950-1951.
The chapel’s outer walls are made with brown woodworks. The roof, more than twice the hight of the walls, fits perfectly among the surrounding mountains.
On the Western side of the chapel is the bell tower with a bell from 1862. The bell was a gift from the church in Risbäck village.
Ralph Erskine got a lot of inspiration for his buildings from the nature which is very visable at the other of his two buildings in Borgafjäll, Hotel Borgafjäll.
You find Avasjö Chapel at the right hand side of the road from Dorotea, a few hundred meters after Hotel Borgafjäll.
