Three kilometers from Granåsen, along the road to Svanabyn, you will find a 15 meter long rock formation. Vittertrappan means The vittra, or dwarf’s staricase. No-one knows exactly how this formation was created but most likely it happened during the Ice age. However, according to the old folks it was the dwarfs who built the stairs in order to make it easier to pass the mountain.

Vittra is a nature spirit very common in the Scandinavian mythology. They live in the ground, in old trees or under the houses and you should really try to be kind and respectful towards them. If not, they might cause you a lot of problems!
