Risbäck heritage museum

Visit Risbäck heritage museum and stroll around among the historical buildings!

The history of the village Risbäck goes back to the 1820’s. Traditionally the village has lived from agriculture and forest industry. When the church was built in the middle of the 19th century Risbäck became the centre for people in the fell area. Thanks to the new church it was no longer needed to travel the 70 km to Dorotea for baptism, weddings and funurals. During the 1880’s a school was opened. Still today there is a school for children between 6-12 years of age.

Risbäck heritage museum is located opposite the church. Take some time to stroll around between the different buildings. On the area you find the parish house from year 1884, a cabin used for baking flatbread and another cabin for smoking meat and fish. There is also a typical granary. Don’t miss the traditional kåta, a wooden tipi, used by a Sàmi family while going to church. The largest building on the area is Kämpeslogen, the barn that was often used for local dance evenings.
